Chandra Taal Lake( Lahul and Spiti, Himachal Pradesh)

About

The meaning of the Chandra taal lake is the lake of Moon, situated at the height of  4300 meter(14100 feet) in Himalayas, Chandra taal lake is situate in the Spiti region of Lahul and Spiti district of the State Himachal Pradesh Of India. The Lake is quit popular for the trekkers and the campers.

How to do this trek

The nearest major town from the Chandra taal lake is  Manali, There are two roots from where you can do this trekking one is from Batal and other is from Kunzun La. Road is available from Batal which is about 14 Km, however one can only reach Chnadra taal lake by foot if you are going from Kunzun La that is about 8 Km, There is no electricity and Mobile towers in Batal and Chandra taal lake, however sometime BSNL network work in this region.
Their is no proper road in Spiti region, the road in this region is rocky so preferable vehicle is SUV's/MUV's, 4X4 is not really required. After Rohtang pass there is only two place where you can eat or rest that is chattru and batal, small dhabas are their in both the places.
Thing to remember while doing this trek is that you should carry warm woolen cloths, shoes(water proof and snow proof), water bottles, backpack( water proof and snow proof), and medics (since there in no hospital near) .
you can hire a cab from manali for this trek but this will cost you around 10K so another option is to get on the HRTC bus from Manali to Kaza and get off at batal from where you can start your trek, I will prefer you to hire a taxi because you can not rely on bus in this region. Last thing is that there is no accommodation in Chandra Taal lake so you need carry a tent with yourself if you are trekking.

Best season

The best season to visit the Chandra taal lake is from May to early October.
